37. A Palpali cap is marked to sell at a profit of 10% by a shopkeeper. If he sells it at a discount of Rs. 10.50, there will be a loss of 5%. Find the cost price of the cap.

Let MP be y. From the First case,  MP = CP + 10% of CP or, y = 110CP/100 or, CP = 10y/11...............(i) Again,  From the second case,  SP = MP - Discount or, SP = y - 10.50...............(ii) Loss = 5% So,  SP = CP .....

38. A retailer marks the price of an article 40% above its cost price and gives a discount of 15% to the customers. If he gains Rs. 75, find the marked price of the article.

40. Mr. Gupta marks the price of his goods 20% above the purchase price but allows a 10% discount to his customers. In this way, he earns a profit of Rs. 120. What is the actual purchase price of the goods?

41. A watch was bought for Rs. 1200. At what price should it be labeled to gain 3313% after a discount of 20%. Also find its selling price.

42. A tradesman marks his goods at such a price that he can deduct 4% for cash and yet makes 20% profit. What is the marked price of an article which costs Rs. 1400?
